The Truth Within

I haven’t spoken much on the situation regarding my estranged husband. We’ve been separated for almost two months now. I ask myself what I’ve been waiting for – really? I’ve been waiting for the truth.

He always tells Girl Child that as long as she tells the truth, she will never be in trouble with him. Funny that he teaches what he does not practice.

I feel that if we start over it needs to be from a place of truth. I know that he hasn’t been truthful about his feelings and affairs. I think most people know in their hearts what the truth is and will recognize it when it is spoken to them. I have not heard the truth spoken, but I know it. I feel it in my heart. And if I’m forced to put my faith in anything right now, I will place it in the only truth I know and feel – the truth in my own heart. For once, I just need to believe in myself because that’s the only place where true honesty exists.

To honor my own inner truth, I have chosen ten of my favorite truth quotes. Which quote is your favorite?

Three things cannot be long hidden: the sun, the moon, and the truth – Budda

There are only two mistakes one can make along the road to truth; not going all the way, and not starting. – Budda

When in doubt, tell the truth – Mark Twain

Truth never damages a cause that is just. – Gandi

The object of the superior man is truth. – Confucius

Rather than love, than money, than fame, give me truth. – Henry David Thoreau

Truth is the beginning of every good to the gods, and of every good to man. - Plato

It is hard to believe that a man is telling the truth when you know that you would lie if you were in his place. H.L. Mencken

To rise from error to truth is rare and beautiful.
– Victor Hugo

There is nothing so strong or safe in an emergency of life as the simple truth. – Charles Dickens

  1. I like the Dickens quote. Dammit, that was a lie. I prefer the Victor Hugo quote. Sometimes lying seems easier but ends up being much more complicated. All the best to you during this tough time (that was real and sincere, see I can do it!).

  2. This is my fave: "It is hard to believe that a man is telling the truth when you know that you would lie if you were in his place." by H.L. Mencken

Because even if it's a quote about truth, rather than boast it's goodness, its the god honest truth about truth. You know what I mean? Its like saying "don't bullshit the bullshiter"...

Facing the truth seems to be the flavor of the day, at least its what I have been up to also!

    Cheers!

  4. Buddha and his 3 things spoke truest to me. But then, I'm married to a liar and after a decade I have faith that in time all gets revealed.

Like you, I know honesty and lies when I hear them; its a sound, a vibration, a feeling in my gut as my ears take in the words.

My wish for you is strength. Strength to stay the course that want to be on. Strength to get you past the many rough parts. Strength to believe in your instincts and your heart.

    Be well.

  5. Truth never damages a cause that is just. – Gandi

If you have to lie about it, you probably shouldn't be doing it. If you're doing what's right, the truth is your friend.

At this point, If he can't give you that one little thing you need, you definitely made the right decisions - he has nothing whatsoever to offer you. He has already lost you; what can it hurt him to admit the truth? Does he believe that it will go away if he doesn't acknowledge it, or does he enjoy knowing he still has the power to keep you off-balance? It really is all about him, isn't it?

Find people to whom YOU matter, then get accustomed to the way they treat you.

  8. I like Plato's comment on truth the best. It is always better to know the truth, no matter how much it hurts.
I went through a divorce and it was very painful. He lied to me all the time, but the truth came out as I believe it always does given enough time. I'm sorry you are going through this.

  9. The Victor Hugo quote is quite profound!

  10. Pickleope - Just like you to always keep me guessing! LOL!

Nikki - Sometimes it's easier to lie to ourselves like when you eat an entire pint of Ben & Jerry's and tell yourself that your skyrocketing stress levels will burn it off by morning. Then you step on the scale and you realize, there is always a price to pay for self deception.

Sangria - Love the cyber hugs!

Annabelle - I liked what you wrote about the sound of truth have a certain vibration. I too believe all is revealed in time. It's the waiting that is the hard part.

Suz - I had the same train of thought as you.

    Julianna - Yep!

Middle - I would respond to what you wrote, but I forgot. (LOL!)

Belle - I hope you're right about that.

Stephanie - Yep, my deep side is almost as intense as my funny side!! (I think we have that in common)

  11. I'd say the first Buddha quote. Of course, the HL Mencken one is pretty damn accurate.
